My name is Shauna Tolchinsky and it is my personal mission to bring health and wellness to anyone who is interested. Several years ago while still living in N.Y. my roommate Caroline B. changed my life. I was the average "healthy person" who got sick once or twice a year and generally felt OK. Though, looking back I can't believe that I though that was the definition of health. Just sitting around and hoping for health with no real plan of action.
Caroline introduced me to these really crazy foreign concepts called good bacteria, organic food and a basic pro-active approach to health. So all of a sudden I did have a plan of action. I didn't have to live in a re-active state. Now I could live in a pro-active take charge state of being. I decided that I wanted to not only live that way for myself, but realized that this is my calling as they say. I get such joy when helping others feel that sense of empowerment in their lives as well. I no longer only wanted to learn for me but I realized that it is my responsibility to share anything I know about wellness. So, I became a certified EFT Practitioner, Healing Foods Specialist(CHFS) and a general health and wellness coach. I also am attending the NTA and will be a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner come October, 2010.
I will write many articles on Holistic Nutrition. We need to be not only informed but be able to know where our information comes from. When you read an article online about health, research a little to make sure it is a reliable source and the person who wrote it has true integrity in the health community. Personally I look for sources in the Holistic health community. I will try very hard to make sure that I get great information on here for everyone to read and share with their friends, piers, loved ones or strangers you may be empowered to educate.
Here are just some basic rules to live by.
1-Eat whole foods..the less labels the better!
2-Know where your food comes from. I would rather by a bunch of strawberries from my local farmers market they may not read organic but is grown a few miles from my home. I know who grows it and that there are no chemical or pesticides used on the soil. Local is better but organic and local is the BEST!!
3-If you cannot read or understand the majority of a product label then do not ingest it, put it on your clothes, clean with it, use it for laundry or bring it into your home. I almost go by the theory that if I cant say it or swallow it, I don't generally buy it. By products that are organic, chemical free, filler free, etc.
4-Don't drive yourself crazy. Caroline told me once that it is a lifestyle of better than!! Live always better than and try for your best. That is better than you did!
5-Research ingredients that are so called"healthy". Be an educated consumer. Stay away from any products that are hydrogenated, low fat, no fat, that have high fructose corn syrup(HFCS). The HFCS is often abbreviated so know what it stands for. Preservatives, color dye, poor quality, poor sugar foods cause many digestive issues. For meats and poultry, it is best to always go grass fed and organic. For eggs it is best to go organic and NON vegetarian feed.
6-Alway learn more....this is my favorite rule!
The above is just some guidelines and I will write many blogs on why to stay away from each of these things. I would love to talk one on one with anyone who is also searching for that pro-active approach. I am currently giving consultations for nutrition.
